A minor character in The Baby Makers (though she seems to be showing up more than I expected), and a member of staff at the house. When first mentioned by Phil, she is in the nursery looking after another new visitor who is introduced as Cass. She appears in chapter 21.
Appearance
A middle-aged woman with dark skin that doesn't look too good. She's had a lot of jobs doing manual work in the past, and used to be a labourer on a construction site, so her skin looks prematurely aged. She has long dark hair (it's something she's really proud of; the women in her family have never gone grey), usually pulled back in a tight bun when she's working. She is first seen wearing something like an old-fashioned nurse's uniform; a straight royal blue dress with a white apron, heavily starched.
