Best friends with Adi and Britney, in Hypnosis Doesn't Work Like That!.
Toni is an energetic tomboy, who might be able to pass for a guy with the bulky clothes she usually wears. She rides a motorbike almost everywhere. She actually owns 3:
- A Harley that was a gift from her dad when she first got into them, because that's what bikers ride. A good bike, but this particular model isn't a good fit for her body shape.
- A Kawasaki that she usually rides to school, the first bike she bought with her own money.
- A 1978 Triumph Thunderbird which she bought from a scrapyard and has been slowly restoring. Lifting this bike on and off workbenches, and dragging it around, probably had the biggest effect on her upper body strength.
She is muscular, and has short hair normally worn in spikes, and with a few blue streaks.
Lives in a posh split-level house on Weepinbell Avenue, with impossibly clean white walls and three floors at the front. Lives with her dad, Pea Walker, but he's out of town for months at a time. She also has two brothers, three cousins, and an uncle who sometimes live in the house, but there are long stretches where Toni's completely alone.
Has a massive crush on her best friend Adi; and doesn't try to keep it secret. She's heavy on the playful flirting even though she knows Adi isn't interested; but she's also good at reading other people's feelings and would never push it to the point where her friend is uncomfortable.
She's quite smart. Good at business, and problem solving. Once she sets herself a problem she's determined to solve it, and the bike repairs have been the biggest test of her abilities. Working out where to get parts from, and teaching herself new skills as necessary to make or bodge the things she needs. She's not that good at research, but she found that's Britney's talent, and she's good at delegating efficiently so that she's not asking her friends too much.
Britney describes Toni as her "sidekick"- this is an in-joke that nobody else understands, and not knowing really irritated Adi. It's possible that they don't even remember now, because it's been going on for so long. It's possible that Toni calls Brit "Wingman" in return, which may or may not have the same origin. Later revealed that 'sidekick' is actually a corruption of 'sidecar'. Toni claims she used the wrong word once and Britney wouldn't let it drop. Possibly an autocorrectism, or just saying the wrong word when she was distracted. She does now have a sidecar for the Triumph, but she's spent nearly six months getting it polished up before she was willing to give anybody a ride in it.
Toni has an Epi-pen for some unknown condition, presumably an allergy. She is known to fake 'attacks' to get out of classes when she's feeling stressed. Adi and Brit are among half a dozen students who know how to use the pen in an emergency, apparently taught by Toni's dad (mentioned in chapter 16). When she first got it, she used to abuse the pen to get high on the adrenaline rush, but she now knows that's not such a good idea, and only uses it in an "emergency".
Since learning of Adi's problem, they have been calling each other "Babe", which has kind of evolved from a joke into a pet name. Now it seems to have developed an additional use, which neithert of them has commented on in-story but both seem to understand: Toni will postfix a sentence with "Babe" to indicate that Adi should try to think about what she's saying before getting offended. It seems to be working.
